Comment

Jean Gautreau acquired Sociando-Mallet in 1969. He expanded the vineyard year after year by purchasing vines from his neighbors. Today, the property covers 83 hectares and produces nearly 450,000 bottles per year of Château Sociando-Mallet and its second wine, Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet. La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet is a wine produced by the youngest vines on the property, and by plots whose soil type is most favorable to the production of very good Merlots. This grape variety actually accounts for half of the blend of this wine. These vines represent around twenty hectares which benefit throughout the year from the same care and work as the entire vineyard. The wine takes its name from the “demoiselle”, a species of dragonfly that lives in the Médoc. Lightness and elegance are two adjectives that characterize the wine and the insect.

Tasting

Intense and dark color. Rich and complex nose of black fruits, enhanced with a slight minerality and a subtle and harmonious wood. On the palate, the wine expresses itself with freshness and clarity, offering a long and balanced finish. Goes perfectly with duck, chicken, stew, sauerkraut as well as mature cheeses such as Saint-Nectaire or Tomme de Savoie.
